About Charles Sturt University

Charles Sturt University is a public institution of higher education in Australia that spans multiple campuses in the states of New South Wales, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory. It was established in 1989, and Captain Charles Napier Sturt, a British explorer who made expeditions into regional New South Wales and South Australia, was honored by having his name bestowed upon the institution.

At Charles Sturt, students can earn undergraduate degrees, postgraduate degrees, higher degrees by research, and higher degrees by studying a single subject. In addition to this, it has established course delivery partnerships with a number of TAFE institutions located all over the country as well as the New South Wales Police Force.

History

The Bathurst Experiment Farm was established in 1895, which is considered to be the beginning of Charles Sturt University’s long and illustrious history. The university was established on July 1, 1989 from the merger of several existing separately-administered Colleges of Advanced Education. It was formed gradually through the merger of regional institutions in south-western and western NSW.

Through the enactment of the Charles Sturt University Act in 1989, this included the Mitchell College of Advanced Education in Bathurst, the Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education in Albury-Wodonga, and the Riverina College of Advanced Education in Wagga Wagga (Act No. 76, 1989). In honor of the explorer Charles Napier Sturt, this location bears his name.

The Mitchell College of Advanced Education opened its doors for the first time on January 1, 1970. Since 1984, students have been able to attend classes at the Riverina Murray Institute of Education campuses in Wagga Wagga and Albury-Wodonga. The latter institution had previously succeeded the Riverina College of Advanced Education, which was itself the result of an even earlier merger between the Wagga Agricultural College and the Wagga Wagga Teachers College. The Riverina College of Advanced Education had itself been the result of an even earlier merger between the Wagga Agricultural College and the Wagga Wagga

Members of faculty and student

The first stage of the purpose-built campus that the Port Macquarie campus calls home has recently been occupied by students and faculty. The completion of the second stage, which took place in 2020, saw the addition of a student support facility, an innovation hub, and a training room for the NSW emergency services. The completion of the third stage is scheduled to take place over the course of the subsequent years, and it is anticipated that 5,000 students will enroll by the year 2030.

On July 28, 2016, Charles Sturt University became the first university in Australia to be officially recognized as carbon neutral. The university was given the “carbon neutral” designation by the Australian Government’s Carbon Neutral Program in accordance with the National Carbon Offset Standard.

Charles Sturt University and Western Sydney University made the announcement on May 9, 2018, that they would be forming a partnership with the network of the Australian Government in order to create the Murray-Darling Medical School, which would offer Joint Medical Programs throughout the Murray-Darling Basin Region. The teaching base for Charles Sturt University was established at the Orange campus of the university in order to extend on the existing program offered by Western Sydney University.

Angus Gilchrist Wynne, Jr

Six Flags Theme Parks were founded and developed by Angus Gilchrist Wynne, Jr., an American businessman who lived from January 9, 1914, to March 12, 1979. Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags Over Georgia, and Six Flags Over Mid-America were his three original theme parks, and he oversaw their creation and construction (now Six Flags St. Louis).

Following a trip to the recently opened Disneyland in Anaheim, California, Wynne came to the conclusion that his native Texas should have its own amusement park. Under Wynne’s direction and that of the Great Southwest Corporation, with the support of numerous New York City investors, preparations for such a location started in 1959. In August 1960, work on the park and the Great Southwest Industrial Park, which is located next door, began. Before his wife informed him that “Texas ain’t under nothing,” Wynne had planned to rename the park to “Texas Under Six Flags.” France, Spain, Mexico, The Republic of Texas, The Confederate States of America, and The United States of America were the original “six flags,” which stood for the six nations and groups that have governed Texas.

History

Originally, the phrase “Six Flags” referred to the six different governments that have ruled Texas: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States (Union), and the Confederate States of America. [8] Although many of the original areas from the first three parks have been replaced, Six Flags parks are still divided into various themed sections.

The Great Southwest Corporation, founded in 1957 by Angus G. Wynne and other investors, is where Six Flags Theme Parks got their start. Six Flags Over Texas’ construction began in 1960, and the park debuted the following year for a brief (45-day) season. A Native American village, a gondola ride, a railroad, some Wild West shows, a stagecoach ride, and “Skull Island,” an adventure attraction with a pirate theme, were among the park’s original features.

There was also a trip through a wilderness full of animated puppets on French riverboats called “LaSalle’s River Adventure,” which was modeled after the historical La Salle Expeditions in the late 1600s. With the exception of the railroad, all of those attractions were eventually replaced by new ones, including an observation tower, roller coasters, swing rides, log flumes, and shoot-the-chute rides.

Growth and acquisitions

Six Flags Over Texas, the first Six Flags amusement park, was sold in 1966 to a Pennsylvania Railroad subsidiary. The Pennsylvania Railroad was actively looking for non-railroad investments in an effort to diversify its revenue streams (in 1968, the Pennsylvania Railroad merged with the New York Central Railroad to form Penn Central Corp which was absorbed into Conrail in 1976). With the new owners, more capital was available in greater amounts, allowing for geographic expansion and park additions. The last two original parks built by the company were Six Flags Over Georgia in 1967 and Six Flags Over Mid-America in 1971.

Six Flags acquired independent parks to fuel its expansion. Three amusement parks were acquired by Six Flags: AstroWorld in Houston, Texas, Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, and Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. Following these acquisitions, Penn Central sold assets to Bally Manufacturing in 1982.
