In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Onwukwe said she anticipated attention from the role but did not expect the level of personal criticism that followed.
“I expected the reactions, but I didn’t think it would become personal. Some people seemed to forget it was just a character in a film. However, I came to terms with it, as long as it doesn’t pose any real harm,” she said. Despite the mixed reactions, Blessing Onwukwe said the role has had a positive impact on her career, increasing her visibility and opening new opportunities.
“It’s been a big boost. It just confirms what I already know this is what I am meant to do,” she said. She also pointed to the key messages in the film, especially around parenting and family responsibility. According to her, parents should be mindful of the expectations they place on their children.
“Parents should avoid placing heavy responsibilities on their children too early. It’s not the duty of the first child to raise the others. People should plan their families based on what they can manage,” she explained. Onwukwe further encouraged young women to maintain a balance between supporting their families and focusing on their own personal development.
“While supporting your family, don’t lose sight of your own growth. Time moves quickly,” she added. Reflecting on the experience, the actress admitted the role was both challenging and demanding. “It pushed me emotionally and professionally. I’ve played tough roles before, but nothing this intense. I had to fully immerse myself in the character, and the audience connected with it,” she said.
